Salisbury Steak with Mushrooms Recipe

by - 6/06/2017 11:00:00 AM

Growing up my mother made Salisbury steak often. I loved this dish. I remember being in the kitchen while she was making this dish and the kitchen smelled amazing. I remember my mother frying the meat just as if she was making burgers and making some type of gravy to go along with it. She would always pair this dish with white rice and drizzle the gravy over the meat and rice. Not sure why it took me so long to try making this dish on my own for my family. I decided to make my own version of this recipe using ground turkey. I decided to use ground turkey because the Mister doesn’t eat beef. Honestly, how good this recipe turned out. I don’t even think a meat eater could tell the difference. I was so pleased with how well this recipe turned out that I plan on putting this recipe in rotation.

Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean ground turkey
  • 1/3 cup dry bread crumbs
  • 1/4 cup chopped onions
  • 1/2 tablespoon Adobo
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 1 teaspoon gravy master
  • 1 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoons water

Instructions

  1. Combine ground turkey, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, egg, adobo, and black pepper in a bowl until evenly mixed. Shape beef mixture into 4 patties, about 3/4 inch thick.
  2. Fry patties in a large skillet over medium heat until browned on both sides, about 10 minutes. Add water, gravy master, onion, and mushrooms; bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer until patties are no longer pink in the center, about 10 minutes more. Transfer patties to a platter and keep warm.
  3. Bring onion mixture to a boil. Make cornstarch slurry, Mix cornstarch and water in a small bowl; stir into onion mixture. Cook and stir until onion gravy is thickened about 1 minute. You can pour mixture over patties to serve or place the patties back in the mixture.
  4. Enjoy!
