My Not So Baby: Teens and Contacts

by - 3/09/2017 08:29:00 PM

Last week Monday my Baby turned 14. Where does time go. I remember when I was in high school in 9th grade and four years of high school felt like forever. I'm always sit back like where does time go?

For the last couple of years Michael asked for contacts. With him being in sports and me just being me. I was really worried if he would be responsible enough for them.
Earlier in February he broke his glasses. This is coming from a kid who would brake his glasses every couple of months. Since I purchased these glasses for him almost three years ago they only had to go in the shop once. Well technically twice if you count this time.

I was really hesitant about getting the contacts. He mentioned to me how his glasses make him look like a little kid. Even though his glasses are adult frames. I get him because I noticed the difference of how he looks with glasses and with contacts.
I set the appointment and the day came. I had to pick him up from school early which I try to avoid. He wasn't aware of the appointment so it was a complete shock to him.

He went in for his normal exam. In order for them to actually allow a child to leave with the contacts they have to take the contact last out and put them in. Boy I'm so thankful for how patient the obstetrician was. It took him some time but he got the daft of it and was able to leave with a trail pair after his fitting. I think he likes the idea of contacts but don't like the idea of having to take them out. Overall, he loves that he has this option.

Do you wear glasses and/or contacts?

  1. I wore glasses as a young child but as I got older I didn't need them anymore. I can't imagine my teen in contacts but I guess if they are responsible it's just another area for them to try out. Won't know they can handle it until you let them.

  2. Awwww, he will ALWAYS be your baby. I'm 30 years old and I still rely on my parents' emotional support! I don't have glasses or contacts but I think with my new job, its quite likely to happen soon!

  5. I wore glasses from 1st grade until sophomore year in high school. I was dying to get contacts but my parents didn't have the money. My dad finally agreed after the school changed it rules and made me wear googles from the science lab over my glasses while I played field hockey. Thank goodness for that rule change! I've had contacts ever since and have never looked back! I think if your son wants them bad enough, he will take care of them. My dad said if I lose them its back to the glasses - that was motivation enough for me. Good luck!

  6. I have thought about using contacts myself, but I am really bad at trying to stick stuff in my eye. And I can only imagine the care of having to take care of them with a solution.

  7. My goodness they grow up fast. Glasses are so expensive. Ugh. My hubs cost hundreds at a time.

  8. I've been a glasses wearer since I was 3 years old! Never actually tried contacts before....I guess I'm just paranoid that they'll get stuck or slip or infected or I don't know what else haha! Although I'm pretty tempted to try the coloured ones, because they look pretty cool :)

  9. Good for him, i think he could wear his contacts well. Mine, I prefer glasses coz it is practical for me, and am too clumsy for contacts.

  12. Great post. I use to wear contacts but now that I am older I wear glasses and I love how they are so beneficial and easy to use compared to contacts.

  13. I wear glasses, I've tried contacts but I wear makeup and they tend to irritate my eyes. I have several pairs of glasses to match my outfit and how I'm feeling :)
