My four Dollar Chair (From Drab to Fab)

by - 7/05/2013 07:17:00 AM

I had this chair for a very long time. I actually have two. Last year (or two summers ago) my sister’s neighbor moved and gave this chair away for free. The chair was in very good condition, and I just knew it would be fabulous once I did my magic. I have been trying to decide if I want to reupholster the chair or paint it. I’ve found so many great fabric painting techniques on line and I knew I wanted to try one. Well, last week while at Joann fabric I found these awesome fabric paints on clearance for $1.97. (I believe the regular price was $5.99 or $6.99) I purchased two bottles of this fabric paint, and decide on Sunday to get the job done! I briefly read the directions which included the drying time of four hours, which was perfect due to it still being the morning and it was supposed to rain later that day. I sprayed the paint on the fabric, and then I brushed the paint in the fabric with a paint brush. (To allow the fabric paint to attach better to the fabric, this step was not required I just did it.)

Once the fabric dried, I was beyond happy with the results. I decided not to paint or spray paint the legs of the chair. (They were in really good condition.)  Now I want to paint the other chair pink or red.  I will keep you ladies updated!!!

  5. Absolutely love it! I have been itching to paint a chair as well but just couldn't gather up enough courage to do so (it is vintage). But you convinced me!!! So there was no need to dilute the paint with anything? You just spray it on and then brush it?

  12. What a dramatic difference! I've never had the confidence to paint fabric. Does it feel stiff after it's painted?

I'm visiting from the 36th Avenue link party.
