Simply Tasheena

Last year I skipped creating this post, however, it's so important for me to stay on top of my spending habits, and try to be more resourceful. Below, I'm sharing 22 Frugal Things I'm Doing to Save Money in 2022.

22 Frugal Things I’m Doing To Save Money in 2022

Buy What I love ( For Myself)
In the past, I've purchased so many things due to mom guilt or simply because it was a good price. When honestly, I wanted something else. I would like to focus more on purchasing pieces that I actually love, and not stuff that would be content with for the time being.

Email/Text Subscriptions
Remember to signup for email/text messages to save on purchases. I recently saved 20% off a purchase just for signing up for their email subscription.

Starbucks
Last year I allowed some points to expire due to trying to wait until a reached the next level of a reward tier, and honestly, I should have just used the rewards.

Receipt Pal
I started using the Receipt Pal app a couple of years ago. You pretty much scan your receipts and you can earn points that you can use points to earn gift cards to stores like Amazon and Target. This is one of my favorite ways to save money.

Meal Plan
Meal planning saves me and my family a lot of money. One I'm not ordering out as much and we also have the items that are needed in our home which reduces the amount of time that we're at a grocery store.

Shopping List
Going to the store with a shopping list and only purchasing items on your shopping list. Eliminates overspending and purchasing unwanted items.

Crockpot Life
I did some research and found that a crockpot actually saves on your electric bill because of course, you're not using an entire oven. My goal is to make at least one crockpot meal a week.

Groupon for Dates
I never paid attention until recently. However, Groupon has some really great sale offers if you're paying attention to your alerts and emails. Combine a great deal with cashback with eBates and you're saving even more money. My goal is to also watch how much money we're spending on purchase dates as well and to not just buy because of the price if that makes any sense. Last year we took advantage of some really great deals one being our trip to a local brewery. It was a great deal and out of the norm of what we typically do.

Going out for Lunch
I've learned that in most cases, lunch is mostly a lot cheaper than dinner options at our local restaurants and we actually save a by going on dates during the day. Is this ideal all the time? No, however, most restaurants offer lunch specials on the weekends as well and our favorite restaurant actually gives great lunch portions.

Flying Budget-Friendly Flights
I'm all for budget-friendly flights like flying United Airlines' basic economy or flying Spirit Airlines.  However, this year I actually became a cardholder for airlines and it's life-changing. Especially, when attending so many conferences throughout the year. My first checked bag is free which saves me $45 per person. The membership really does pay for itself.  Plus, priority boarding is such a game changer!!

Make Homemade
Last year I really tried to focus on creating more homemade meals. Since I eat mostly a plant-based diet. I typically make a ton of desserts, pie crust, and snacks homemade. It's great because I know firsthand what's going in my food and I have more control of the sugar content.

Use Cash Apps
As prior stated, I'm a huge fan of Cash Back apps and my goal is to use them whenever it's applicable. Some of my favorite apps are Top Cash Back, Rakuten, DOSH, and Ibotta.

Plan Ahead for Holidays
I am big on planning ahead for the holiday. and it's never too early or too late for you to start too. I want to get better at actually making and budgeting for the holidays in advance no matter how big or small it may be. I found myself. A little last minute with my gift for Michael this year and I could have actually made the gift weeks in advance since I had everything on hand. I also would like to make more DIY gifts in advance, because once the largest holidays come around I typically get really busy and the projects never happen.

Air Dry Clothing
I love air drying my clothes. Of course, it's a lot easier during the warmer months. However, I'm learning to airdry what I can during the wintertime and I've been really impressed with how well I've been doing.

Starting a Garden
For the last couple of years, I've started a garden. I try my best to start a garden indoors. However, I typically forget to water the plant. This year I plan on adding more items to my garden and actually starting in advance. I already purchased a couple of items and I can't wait to get started with them.

Amazon Prime
This is actually my second or third year as a prime member and I actually love the service. I have Prime Music which I love and it's nice to get the items shipped two days or receive a credit if I don't need rush shipping. The two-day shipping really comes in handy, especially during the holidays.

Created/Maintain A Routine
During the fall/winter, my routine has been all out of wack and I really miss having a daily routine. What I love about routines is that it actually keeps you on task and your time and money are accounted for. I have a schedule and a to-do list and know what I need to get done. I know what I need to work on next and what I'm making for dinner. I know what time I want dinner started because I have a routine. It's not perfect. However, it helps me a lot with staying on task.

Homemade Gifts
This year I want to focus more on personalized homemade gifts. I have a silhouette machine and I need to use it. I did such a great job in the past years making personalized homemade gifts. I have to get back on track with making them and actually setting time aside to create them

Stock Up on Sales
I think I'm the self-proclaimed queen of sales. However, I have to get in the habit of stocking up on items that we use on a daily basis. I know the items that we need to keep on hand and typically run out of on a regular basis. Like spaghetti sauce, stuffing, pasta, cream of chicken, etc. Why pay full price when the items regularly go on sale.

Use a Toaster Oven
I invested in a toaster oven. I'm so happy that we did. I believe we paid under $20 for it. It's not high-tech or anything. However, it does the job and it makes it so much easier when making small portions that require an oven.

Wash After 7:00 pm
I learned a couple of years ago that electric rates change during the day. I also learned by washing after 7:00 pm at night that I could save money. I typically don't implement this as much during the warmer months. Because I'm typically air drying our clothes. However, it really comes in handy during the winter months with having to use our water and dryer a lot more. I would defiantly check with your electric carrier to see if your rates change.

Bring My Own Bag
This summer my state implemented a bag tax. I always try to remember to bring my own bag, and our Target still offers five cents for each bag you bring.

What are some ways you're saving money this year?

Up until a couple of years ago. I would complete all of my Black Friday shopping in-store. I remember my first Black Friday experience as if it was yesterday. My aunt would go Black Friday shopping every year. She extended the offer to my sister and me. This took place back in 2004. I remember not getting any sleep, due to being super excited and leaving out of the house around 3 or 4 am. This was back prior to stores opening on Thanksgiving Day, and offering sales online as well. Fast forward to now. I do most of my Black Friday shopping for the comfort of my bed. This has come from trial and error, and I've learned something new each year. To improve my shopping experience. Below I'm sharing my four favorite tips to save money on Black Friday sales online.

Emails
I always try to stress the importance of signing up for your favorite store Newsletter. A lot of times stores will send exclusive offers and VIP access to email subscribers. This is perfect, especially around Black Friday. I received a ton of emails last year for early bird access.

Sale Starts
Many stores sale starts online before the actual in-store sale. It’s so important to actually know when the sale starts with the store you plan on shopping at. Create a list of all of the stores you plan on shopping at and do some research on when the sale starts online.

Reminders
Since each sale starts at different times/days. Create a reminder on your phone to make sure you don’t miss out on the sale, also this ensures that the items in which you're looking for don't sell out.

Price Comparison
So many stores are offering great sales. However, not all sale prices are the same. It’s so important to really sit down and price compare. Find out which items you, want, and which price compares with several stores. Make sure it's the same exact item. To ensure that you're actually getting the best deal. For instance, if you're looking to purchase an Apple watch, you find the same exact watch at Target and Best Buy for the same exact price. (so you think) However, the watch at Target is a little more expensive, has more "GB" you're also going to get a $50 discount, and 5% off for using your red card. You have to really break down "what's a good price".

Coupon Codes
If you’re signed up for your favorite store's email and mailing list. You should be receiving coupon code offers. If you haven’t received these offers yet. No worries. Some stores will send the codes the same day as the sale. You can always do a quick google search to see if you come across any valid coupon codes. I've saved a ton by just doing a quick Google search and signing up for my favorite store email list.

If you follow Dave Ramsey baby step 1 is saving $1,000 or even if you have no money saved and would like to break the ice and learn how to save. I’m sharing a few tips below that will jump-start your savings goals. Whether you want to save $1K or 10k. Just keep on repeating the process.

How to Save $1000 fast

Saving Challenge
You can easily save by saving $77 weekly for 3 Months which is 13 weeks. There are tons of other variations of this. Do what works best for you.

Side Hustle
I know this is the just one of those things that people hate to hear. The more you make the more you can save. Try getting a side Hustle and/ or applying for a promotion or another job. We sometimes just get complacent with the job that we have that we sometimes get too comfortable and stay in the same position. There are a ton of side Hustles from UrberEats, Mystery Shopping, dog walking, surveys, starting a blog... just to name a few. Figure out what works for you. What are you good at?

Drink Water
You have no idea how much money you could save if you cut out juices, which can be really pricey. Remember this change doesn't have to be forever if you don't want to make a lifestyle change. However, try cutting out drinking soda or juice for a week to see how much money you can save and put the money in a savings account to go towards your $1K goal.

Pack Your Lunch
I’ve never been one to buy a lunch every day. Don’t get me wrong. I do enjoy occasionally eating out. If you budget $50 a week for eating out for lunch. You could easily save close to $200 a month. By cutting this cost. Maybe you can go from eating out every day to treating yourself once a week.

Eat Out Less Out
I know for some this may be hard. Especially being in a relationship date nights are so important. However, think about all the money that you could possibly save. Try eating out for lunch instead of dinner because a lot of times it’s much cheaper and sometimes even the same portion size. I love being creative and have a picnic dinner. The possibilities are really endless and Pinterest always has really clever ideas.

Buy in Bulk
I love having a wholesale membership. It honestly has come in handy. Especially for gas and food. Let’s not forget to mention the amazing travel deals they have as well. I think a major misconception is that when you buy in bulk that you’re going to have a lifetime supply of the item. That’s really far from the case in most cases. I love to buy my seasonings, water, nuts, frozen items and veggies in bulk. It’s usually amazing quality the portion size isn’t that different in most cases and you save.

Cancel a Service
A couple of years ago I ditched cable and my gym membership. I’m just not one of those people that enjoy going to the gym. The only time I workout at a gym is while on vacation. Weird right? It’s just not for me. I also ditched cable. It wasn’t hard for me. However, my family struggled in the beginning. With services like Netflix and Halo. It really was a great decision and you could possibly save a lot of money.

I’m often asked ways that I save and as you guys know. Today I'm sharing my tips and tricks with you.

10 Ways to Save

Game Night At Home
Host a Game night instead for going out. You can easily borrow games from friends and family or sell the games that you currently have and are no longer using to purchase new ones.

Used Books
Get Books from Your Local Library or Have share/swap groups with friends/ family. If you have to purchase, purchase used. I’ve found a ton of books at the thrift/consignment shop.

Cancel Memberships
Workout at home instead of going to the gym (YouTube has a ton of workout videos as well as your local library)

Use cash-back apps when purchasing items
(My Favorites are Top Cash Back and, eBates)
I always use cashback apps when purchasing online and instore. The cashback amount changes daily and they usually offer cashback with almost every store.

Rebates
Use rebates when they’re offered. For instance, for the last couple of years, Bear paint offers rebates Memorial weekend at Homedepot. If I typically need to touch up paint around that time of year for our home. I’ll purchase the paint when they have the rebate offer and save money.

Purchase on Sale
Most stores have the same sales each. When menu planning. I prefer to menu plan for the month. It gives me a pretty clear view and opportunity to buy the items that I need when they’re on sale.

Research
Do your research it’s so important to do your research. I always do a quick google search prior to making a purchase. For instance, for Father’s Day, my Dad wanted a specific hat. I did a quick Google search and found that same hat on Amazon cheaper buy almost $20.

Sign up for Newsletters
If you follow me on social media I gave this tip on my social media pages. Sign up for all of your favorite store's newsletter. The Mister wanted something specific for his Father’s Day gift. I wasn’t signed up with the store that I purchased the item from. I signed up with their newsletter and saved over $20 with my first purchase. I was going to make the purchase regardless.

Credit Card Cash Back
(I’m all for using credit cards if you use them responsibly and pay off the entire balance immediately or when the bill arrives. If you struggle in this area skip this option. ) As I prior mentioned the gift I purchased for the Mister also had a cashback offer with my credit card company. I believe I saved $30. I also received points for the purchase as well. These offers change all of the time with credit card companies. Prior to going out shopping or out for dinner. I always check to see what current offers they have.

Quality over Quantity
Last year I switched antiperspirants. Honestly, it took me forever to make the change. I even did a review on this product on my YouTube channel and also wrote a blog post about it here. This deodorant was three times the cost of the deodorant that I was currently using and honestly, I believe that I’m actually saving more in the long run and the environment at the same time. Because I don’t have to reapply my deodorant throughout the day. I Apple it once. Of course, this changes during the warmer months when I take more showers throughout the day. However, sometimes we think because the upfront cost is pricey that we’re not saving when we’re actually saving in the long run.

Whether your single or a family of ten. Today I'm sharing 8 Reasons Why We love shopping at Bj's Wholesale Club. A lot of people are under the impression that shopping at Bj's is just for large families and that's so far from the truth. Even when I was just a single mom I shopped at BJs because it allowed me to shop for the brands that I love for the fraction of grocery store prices.

Giving Back

One of the reasons that I love shopping at Bj's Wholesale Club is because they give back to the community. Not only on a local level. But on a national level as well. When I spend my money at Bj's. I know it's being reinvested back into my community.

Coupons

Bj's is the only Wholesale club that accepts manufacturer coupons. On top of using A manufacturer coupon you also can use a BJ's in-store coupon and what's so awesome about that is Bj's mails a monthly coupon booklet with different coupons each month to members and BJ's also has in-store coupons that are also available in the store for members. When I visit my local Bj's I always check out the instore coupon rack to see if I can save even more on my favorite products.

Bj's Gas/Propane

The Bj's Wholesale Club membership is worth the price alone with how much you save annually on gas. I can always count on that I will find the lowest prices at Bj's. I also love how periodically Bj's will have additional saving when you shop in store first you will get additional saving on gas. How cool is that? I currently have been looking into the idea of getting a Bj's credit card. You can save up to 5% cash back and ten cents off of a gallon of Bj's gas.
My family cooks on the grill a lot throughout the summer and I love that I can get my propane refilled for a great price which is going to come in handy this Memorial Day weekend.

The Deli

Not all deli meat is created equal. Bj's has the best deli meat and cheeses that I've ever tried. My family favorites are the Rotisserie and Buffalo chicken. Thank me later!! I have everyone in my family hooked on these two deli meets. They have so many other deli meat and cheese options and they also can create a deli platter for your next gathering.

Bakery

Did you know that Bj's also sells ice cream cakes? My family and I are hooked on them. Seeing how it's graduation season. Bj's sells the prettiest graduation cakes that you can order and personalize. Bj's bakery items are so yummy from fresh croissants, bagels, and bread to cheesecakes. Bj's is my go-to spot for all my party needs. They even have the disposable helium tanks with the balloons included in the box.

MISC

I'm always asked what I shop at Bj's Wholesale Club for and the answer is EVERYTHING! Soap, paper towel, Birthday cards (which are high quality and a great price), toys, electrionics, clothing, lotion patio furniture, flowers, garden supplies, luggage, tires, and supplements. Bj's is truly my one stop shopping place.

In-Store/Online Shopping

When you don't feel like shopping in the store. You can order items online and have them shipped to your home. Don't forget about the Bj's Pickup and pay option. Where it allows you to reserve the items online and have them picked up in store.

Is there a such thing as affordable internet? I am at my wits end with this whole cable thing, However, I feel that we do utilize our internet service. The boy’s love cable *sigh* I barely ever watch TV. Did I mention that we also have Netflix as well *sigh*.  So I wanted to hear from my readers… is there a such thing as affordable internet? I guess I would have to give my definition to you of what affordable internet is? Pretty much a service that does not go up every couple of months like most cable companies…If you know of any national companies or any great tips or tricks with internet companies please share below in the comment box.

Do you have cable? Can you live without cable?

Thank You For Stopping By!
