Simply Tasheena

The week between Christmas and New Year's often feels like a strange limbo period. But it's actually the perfect time to reset, reflect, and prepare for the year ahead. Here's your comprehensive guide to making the most of this unique time.

Tackle Post-Christmas Organization

- Transform holiday chaos into order by developing a storage system for decorations. Label boxes clearly and consider photographing your favorite arrangements to recreate them next year. Take time to properly store delicate ornaments and lights without tangling them.

- Instead of letting gift boxes pile up, break them down immediately and either store them for next year or recycle them. Consider using sturdy gift bags and boxes as storage solutions throughout the year.

Smart Shopping Strategies

- Take advantage of post-Christmas sales strategically. Look for deeply discounted holiday decorations, winter clothing, and gift sets. But remember to buy only what you'll actually use – a great deal isn't savings if it becomes clutter.

- Consider stocking up on basics that never go out of style: classic gift wrap, solid-colored ribbon, and neutral decorations that work year-round.

Mindful New Year Preparation

- Rather than making sweeping resolutions, focus on setting realistic, specific goals. Break them down into quarterly milestones that feel achievable. For instance, instead of "get healthy," try "cook at home three nights a week."

- Create a space that supports your goals. If you're aiming to read more, set up a cozy reading nook. Want to exercise regularly? Designate a specific area for workouts, even if it's just enough space for a yoga mat.

Digital and Physical Decluttering

- Use this time to organize your digital life. Clean out your email inbox, unsubscribe from unwanted newsletters, and organize your photos from the past year.

- Start your physical decluttering with one small area – perhaps that drawer in the kitchen that collects everything. Working in manageable chunks prevents overwhelm and builds momentum.

Financial Fresh Start

- Review your holiday spending and use those insights to create a realistic budget for the coming year. Consider setting up automatic savings for next year's holiday season.

- Take inventory of gift cards received and make a plan to use them before they're forgotten. Consider using them for necessities or planned purchases rather than impulse buys.

Mental Reset

- Take time to journal about the past year's achievements and challenges. What worked well? What would you do differently? Use these reflections to guide your approach to the new year.

- Practice gratitude by writing thank-you notes for holiday gifts. This simple act helps maintain connections and starts the year with positivity.

Remember, the post-Christmas period isn't just about recovery from the holidays – it's an opportunity to thoughtfully transition into a new year. Take it one step at a time, and focus on changes that truly align with your values and goals.

What small step will you take first to prepare for the year ahead?

The twinkling lights are strung, the cookies are cooling on the counter, and I'm curled up in my favorite armchair with a steaming cup of peppermint hot chocolate. As I sit here on Christmas Eve, watching the snow gently falling outside my window, I can't help but reflect on what makes this season truly special.

You know that feeling when you catch the first whiff of pine needles as you're decorating the tree? Or the way your heart swells when you find the perfect gift for someone you love? These small moments are what Christmas magic is made of, and I've been collecting them like precious ornaments throughout the season.

The Joy of Slowing Down

This year, I made a conscious decision to do things differently. Instead of getting caught up in the holiday hustle, I've been embracing what I like to call "cozy minimalism." That means:

Taking evening walks to admire neighborhood light displays. There's something magical about the way Christmas lights transform ordinary streets into enchanted pathways, especially when your cheeks are pink from the cold and your breath forms little clouds in the air.

Spending Sunday afternoons baking family recipes. My grandmother's gingerbread cookie recipe card is splattered and worn, but every time I pull it out, it's like she's right there in the kitchen with me, guiding my hands as I measure the molasses.

Creating handmade gifts. I've rediscovered the joy of crafting, and let me tell you – the look on someone's face when they receive something you've made with love is worth every minute spent.

Making Room for What Matters

The older I get, the more I realize that Christmas isn't about perfection. It's not about the Pinterest-worthy table settings or the perfectly coordinated gift wrap (though I'll admit, I still love both). It's about creating space for connection, wonder, and gratitude.

This evening, as I prepare for tomorrow's celebrations, I'm filled with appreciation for these quiet moments of reflection. The house is filled with the scent of cinnamon and vanilla, carols play softly in the background, and my heart is full knowing that tomorrow will bring the joy of gathering with loved ones.

A Christmas Wish

To all of you reading this, I wish you moments of pure Christmas magic. May you find joy in the small things, peace in the quiet moments, and love in abundance. Whether you're celebrating with a house full of family or enjoying peaceful solitude, remember that you're part of this beautiful tapestry of holiday celebrations happening around the world.

From my cozy corner to yours, Merry Christmas! 🎄✨

What are your favorite Christmas traditions? Share them in the comments below – I'd love to hear what makes this season special for you!

I can't believe Christmas Eve is only a few days away. Like most kids, it would be so hard for me to sleep the night before Christmas, and as a Mom, I learned that it was so much more fun to turn the day into a complete experience. I created this printable to assist with some ideas for your family. Tracking Santa is always a huge hit, and of course, binge-watching your favorite movies.

Does your family have any Christmas Eve Traditions?

With the holidays fast approaching, I’ve learned over the years that it’s so important to think of qualities over quality. I personally, would prefer one gift that I know I’m going to use versus a gift that is going to collect dust and space in my home. Don’t get me wrong, I’m grateful for anything that I receive. For instance, early this year I was gifted something that I actually needed and loved and I was really thankful for the thought that went into the gift. Below, I’m sharing three intentional gift ideas.

What They Want
Ask the person what they want, I like to keep a running list on my phone for various gift ideas for my loved ones. I would rather give them what they want versus giving them something I think they want or need. Simply ask, and you’ll be surprised how receptive people are.

Consumable Food/Drink

I’m huge on food and drink gifts. I think it’s a wonderful way to treat your loved ones to their favorite drinks/eats. It’s also a great way for them to try new foods/drinks.

Experience
I love the idea of offering experiences, this is a wonderful way to try a new experience or for them to revisit an old fav.

Christmas is fast approaching, and for many people, it can be a stressful time. It really does not have to be though. When I learned how to say no, and not overextend myself, the holidays became a game-changer for me. This Christmas can be your best Christmas yet, once you create a plan, and determine what doesn't work for you. Below, I'm sharing tips for Surviving Christmas.

Learn To Say No
It’s so important to know when to say no and how to say no I feel like a lot of times we overextend ourselves and we're unable to accomplish the goals that we have due to saying yes to everything and everyone. Really sit down prior to committing to something, ask yourself if he’s going to bring more stress on more joy to your holiday spirit.

Plan

I can’t stress the importance of how important it is to plan out your holiday season I am not perfect by any means however I’ve noticed that planning definitely does make things a lot easier and take the stress off of you. If you have a hard time finding the perfect dress for all of the holiday parties that you're invited to, purchase multiple dresses. I know that this may sound a little strange. However, it's better to have multiple options, than to wait last minute, and you just feel like not attending the event due to feeling overwhelmed. Just remember that when you purchase those items, make sure that you can possibly wear them to another event if needed. If you struggle with being a last-minute shopper. Create a printable monthly spread, showcasing the deadline and budget you have to purchase the gift for each person. When it's time to go shopping, you have already broken down your list, and know who you're going to buy for. I highly would suggest not having anything on your task list or to-do list a week before Christmas just so that frees up time for you to do the stuff that you love maybe. This could be going to the spa and maybe is having a countdown and/or creating an advent calendar with your family prior to the holidays.

Know Your Triggers
It’s so important to know your triggers throughout the holiday season do you get stressed out when you have to do stuff last minute do you not like being around crowds do you prefer to not overextend yourself. It’s just so important to know what triggers you and I feel that a lot of people find themselves stressed out during the holiday season because they overextend themselves. Don’t be afraid to say no to people if being, if last-minute holiday shopping stresses you out and you're really triggered to the point where you don't even feel like celebrating the holidays, take a moment to step back, and reflect on the situation. What's caused you to be stressed out. What could you do differently?

The holidays are right around the corner and I could not be more excited to start planning our annual Christmas cards. I've learned that you will find alot of deals on holiday cards now, and it really simplifies the process, and it's just one less thing you have to worry about doing this holiday season. Below I’m sharing my favorite tips for selecting the perfect holiday card.
Photo
Prior to know to select the perfect card. I narrow down my sections with the photo. I typically send two different cards out per year. One that’s more romantic, and another one that’s fun. I create a file on your phone and/or computer for potential photos throughout the year. This makes the search for the perfect photo so much easier.
Matching
When selecting the perfect card. I always narrow my search around the photo. I wouldn’t select an orange card if everyone in the photo is wearing neon pink. I would go with a black theme or a theme that really brings out the photo and color my family is wearing.
Sending
It’s so important to know when to order and send your cards. The sooner is always better. Don’t wait until the last minute to order your cards. You can always order more if needed or even opt to send out a second round of cards in a different design. I typically send my cards out the week after Thanksgiving. Alot of sites now offer the option to buy now and personalize later.
No photo Let’s face it, sometimes it’s so hard to find the perfect photo, or maybe you just want to send a non-photo card this year. Their are tons of no photo card options. I love using the non-photo cards to include the kiddos school photo for friends and family.
Do you have any Christmas card tips?

Prior to becoming a blogger. The thought of putting my Christmas tree up before thanksgiving honestly never crossed my mind. Of course, I would see the Christmas decor in the store. However, it was a tradition in my home to put up our tree the day after Thanksgiving, and I followed that tradition when I became a mom.

Over the last couple of years, I've had the desire to put my tree up. It just feels as if Christmas doesn't get that much time. I'm not sure if it's due to having so much going on around that time or perhaps simply my love for the holiday.

This year, I wanted different, and it feels so good to have my tree up. Though, I'm still deciding on my color scheme. I'm so happy to bring a little holiday cheer around my home.

When do you put up your Christmas tree?

I know it's only July, however, it's never too early to start planning for Christmas. I know the holidays can become overwhelming for a lot of people. What has worked for me is planning ahead. Below, I'm sharing ways to save this holiday season.

Ways to Save This Holiday Season

Facebook Market Place/Craigslist/Tag Sales
You never know what you may find on by checking out a Tag sale or even Craigslist or Facebook Market Place. A lot of people list new items for a great price.

Christmas Club Account
Most banks offer Christmas Club accounts. Whether you plan on saving $25 a week or $100. It's never too late to start saving. The best part about this is that the money will be available to use in the fall months.

Abandon Cart
Though I’ve never used this method. This is an awesome way to save on items that you purchase online. Not all companies offer discounts. However, it doesn’t hurt to try. This is how the offer basically works. Add items to your shopping cart and leave the items in the cart. A lot of times some stores will send an exclusive Offer if your purchase the items in your cart.

Mobile Offers
Many stores offer exclusive offers to those signed up with their mobile/ text offers. These offers are typically different from those sent by email and typically have to be used within a certain amount of time.

Email Signup/ Newsletter
Don’t forget to signup for the stores in which you love. Even signup for the stores in which you have to purchase gifts. I make sure to signup for all of my kid's favorite stores so I know when they’re having a sale. A lot of stores will also offer a discount by email when you signup for their newsletter. The coupon code is typically emailed within minutes and last for a couple of days for online and in-store.

Create a List
He's creating a list checking it twice... ok, of course, you're not Santa but it's so important to create a list, and know who you're purchasing for. Once you've created a list. Know the item(s) you would like to purchase for each person. It's never to early to ask your kids (friends/family) what they want for Christmas. Knowing what to look out for is going to save you a ton of money. Especially, if you start purchasing the items in advance before they become a hot holiday item.

Follow Sales
Now that you have your list. It's so important to follow the sales AD for the stores. Especially, stores like Target. You should know the likely hood of that item going on sale. If it ever does. Somethings it's more important to purchase the item for peace of mind, especially, if it's a hot ticket item.

Cash Back Apps
I can not stress enough how easy it is to save with apps like:

TopCashBack \ Ebates \ Ibotta. I use these apps for all of my shopping. I highly would suggest joining them. They're super easy to use, and the cashout process is really simple. I love that a lot of them have the option to cash out with a check, PayPal, and even gift cards.

Price Matching
Most stores offer price matching. It's so important to know the price matching policy. This is when it's so important to start early if you can. Most items can be returned if your child changes their mind. Some stores even offer price matching for online purchases as well. Just know, that it has to be exactly the same product.

Do you have any money-saving tips for this upcoming holiday season?

Can you believe it? It’s Christmas EVE!! I can’t believe Christmas is tomorrow. It’s really bittersweet. Growing up, Christmas Eve I would pretty much have the same feelings I would have the day before the first day of school. As an adult, I still get excited, I’m typically always the first one up Christmas Day. Though, my kiddos are older now. I always try to keep us busy Christmas Eve with events and doing stuff like going to the movies, making gingerbread houses. Going to see Christmas lights etc. Below, I created a list of things you can do with your family Christmas Eve.

What do you typically do Christmas Eve?

For the last couple of years, I created a Christmas wish list for myself. Some years are more extravagant than others. This year is more of a mixture of the two. I would love to receive any of these items as a gift or even a variation of the items seeing how it’s so close to Christmas of course gift cards work too! A girl can dream, right?

What’s on your Christmas wish list for this year?

Christmas is one of my favorite holidays. I love everything about it, from the decor to the yummy treats that are made. Just everything about it is pretty amazing. However, the same joy that I have for the holidays, really stress people out. I've learned so much by trial and error. It's never too late to make this year run as smooth as possible. below I'm sharing 8 Tips for a Stress-Free Holiday.

8 Tips for a Stress-Free Holiday

Plan Ahead

I can not tell you the importance of planning ahead of time whether you're hosting or a guest at a holiday gathering. If the person is hosting an event doesn't ask you to bring anything, offer. Why because if you don't you're going to be the first person that the contact when they need something last minute. From creating your shopping list in advance, create your menu plan, know what gifts your purchasing and for whom. Plan, plan, plan, you can't over plan.

Learn to Say NO!

Okay, you may not want to hear that. However, it's so important to learn how to say no. I get it, it's the holidays.  However, you deserve to enjoy the holidays too. If you know it's going to be too much for you, learn how to say no. "No, I can't bake a cake. However, I can pick one up from the store on my way."

Create a budget
I am huge on creating a budget for the holiday season. I wrote several posts on it. It's so easy to get carried away with spending. Know what your budget is, and stick to it.

Don't Sweat the Small Stuff

I have to be honest with you. I'm still learning not to sweat the small stuff. I remember my first year making a red velvet cake. I forgot to purchase buttermilk. I was mid-way of making the cake and noticed that I was out of milk... I noticed that my local pharmacy was open and I decided to make a quick run to purchase some milk. Long story short. It wasn't the end of the world. I purchased the milk and googled how to make homemade buttermilk.

Buy what you can't make or Create

I love Martha Stewart. However, I know that I'm not her. Outsource whatever you can. I know those DIY projects sound like an amazing idea. However, be realistic with yourself. Instead of procrastinating and waiting until the last-minute has someone make or create it for you. I have no shame in buying pre-made desserts, and sides. My family loves candy yams and they are my least favorite to make and take a ton of time. Guess what I do? I purchase the pre-made version. Learn to not sweat the small stuff.

Prep As Much As You Can

Typically when I'm hosting a holiday dinner I create a list of To-do's, a shopping list as well as a list of everything that I need to work on that week. I prep as much as I can days before like place cards, menus, etc. I also make sure that I have everything that I need. I cook all of my desserts a day or two in advance and I try my best to make everything else the night before.

Ask For Help

This is something that I struggle a lot with. I really hate bothering people so I tend to take everything on. When we typically have Christmas or New Years' dinner. I make everything. I started asking people to bring something. Food, drinks, dessert, cutlery. Anything helps! Even if you're asking friends/family to assist you to be on the lookout for a special gift that you have to purchase. It doesn't hurt to ask for help.

Enjoy

We get so wrapped up in the holidays and making sure that everything and everyone is okay. Don't forget to actually enjoy the upcoming holidays. Plan some "me time" and self-care dates for yourself. Remember that you're no good to anyone else if you're a mess and barely functioning.

During the holidays. I love creating DIY gifts for my friends and family. One of my favorite items to make is spa jars. The gifts are super easy to make and are perfect if you're a last minute shopper. Let's face it. When you purchase gifts sets. A lot of them don't typically carry all of your favorite items. Creating your own gives you full creativity. These jars make the perfect throughout the year, and you can really customize it to the personality of the person that you're giving it to.

Do you like spa jars?

What's In My Jar

It's officially a week from Christmas. It defiantly feels like December in my state. I wasn't sure if I was going to create a wish list. Honestly, I really couldn't think of anything that I wanted. Of course the usual, vacation, camera lens, and a bunch of other stuff. I still haven't purchased the camera lens that has been on my wishlist for the last couple of years. I was told that Canon was going to release a new lens. (memo to self: look into that) I just noticed that I've never owned a pair of Ugg boots. The moister purchased a pair of Ugg slippers a couple of years ago, and to be honest. I just wasn't impressed with the quality. I'm open to receiving them as a gift though.

I'm currently on the lookout for some flat black knee boots. The pair a purchased several years ago has run its course. I purchased them from Aldo's, and they held up pretty well. I would defiantly purchase another pair from Aldo's. Love their quality. I've been shopping there for as long as I can remember. Defiantly, over 16 years. I also put on my list a monogrammed mug. I purchase one last year, during the after Christmas sale. I must say that I loved everything about the mug. The Mister broke it. Hoping to purchase another soon. I miss using my little mug. I'm also in need of a new winter coat. The one I have, I've had for over nine years. It's Ralph Lauren, It's held up well all these years. Of course, by now I'm in need of a new one. I will say that my coat keeps me warm. I would love something similar that goes past my knees...

Anywho, do you have a Christmas Wish List?

Christmas is one of my favorite holidays. However, I’ve also noticed that Christmas can bring a lot of stress or to people for various reasons. Today I’m sharing a few tips to get you through this holiday season. These are tips that you can use on a daily basis well after the holiday season is over and done with.

If you struggle with being a last minute shopper. Create a printable monthly spread, showcasing the deadline and budget you have to purchase the gift for each person. When it's time to go shopping, you have already broken down your list, and know who you're going to by for. I highly would suggest not having anything on your task list or to do list a week before Christmas just so that frees up time for you to do the stuff that you love maybe.

Really sit down prior to committing to something, ask yourself if he’s going to bring more stress on more joy to your holiday spirit.
